Record Entries Results in Largest Field in Corporate Pursuit Event History

Harrex_CorporatePursuit Logo Home27/04/10 - Record entries have resulted in 33 teams being confirmed in Harrex Group Corporate Pursuit cycling event being held in Invercargill in late June.

In  previous  years  a  maximum  of  32  teams  could  enter  the  event  but  organisers  Cycling Southland have increased the field by one to allow for the extra interest.

“We  are  thrilled  to  have  received  a  full  complement  of  entries  for  this  unique  event,” spokesperson for Cycling Southland Julian Ineson said.

“It  again  emphasizes  the  calibre  of  the  event  and  its  popularity  amongst  the  Southland business community.”

There are a large number of businesses who are returning after racing in previous years with some businesses,  including  the New Zealand Fire Brigade and Fonterra, who have entered more than one team.

Nineteen businesses entered are  returning  for at  least  their second attempt and  there are a large number of businesses who have competed  in all  three previous editions of  the event, including Division One Champion YMCA, Konica Minolta, Preston Russell Law and  the HW Richardson Group.

New entries include the Southland Times, Invercargill Licensing Trust, SEC Engineering and South Port.

“The town is already buzzing about the potential battles on the velodrome.” Ineson said.

“Plenty of emails and phone calls are going on as people engage  in  friendly banter  leading into the opening weeks of their training.”

“There is no other corporate track cycling event of this size in the world.  The continual growth in popularity of this event each year is fantastic to see.”

The event starts with a grading time trial on Friday 18 June and then finals are on Sunday 27 June.

The Corporate Pursuit  involves  teams of  four  riders  in an  Italian-style pursuit, with one  rider dropping off after each lap. The team with the fastest time over the four laps is the winner.
