The South Port Points Series kicked off in style with a good field racing in the Thornbury Graded circuit on Saturday.
Just six stepped up to Division 1 but the youngest member Corbin Strong still proved that age is no barrier winning the jersey from Blake-Tait-Jones and Jack Pedler in third, while Sam Miller had to settle for fourth spot.
A stronger field lined up for Division 2 and it was Southland's Queenstown-based competitor Steve Brough that took the honours of 20 points from Neil Familton with 15 points and Wayne Miller finishing in third for 12 points. Andrew Lienert earned 10, Red Burnett took 8, Neil Sutherland 6, Shane Fletcher 4 and Tim Maynard 3.
Another strong field fronted for Division 3 and it was again youth who took the honours with Josh Miller pipping half a bike length on the final straight taking the maximum 20 points from Allan Milne who secured 15 points for second and Craig Sadlier on 12. Peter Leighton took 10, Darryl Haggerty 8,Wayne Murchland 6, Max Anderson 4 and Jim Phair 3.
Thanks to all the usual suspects, including Lindsay Jones and manager Marty Lohrey and his band of merry marshalls.
