A youthful Southland contingent took on the NZ Cup on Wheels during the weekend claiming some good results during Otago's big Carnival weekend of racing.

Jen Mhul, Sophie McMurdo, Joe Archer and Nick Kergozou put their hands - and legs - up to the challenge with the Track meet on the Saturday and Todd Memorial Road Race on the Sunday.

Jen got two 3rds, one in 2000m scratch race and elimination, while Joe rode well in the points race and was supported strongly with loud cheers of encouragement. Sophie rode well on a different track. It was good to see the Southlanders helping each other as Joe had a few mechanicals, but everyone pitched in and Jen kindly lent him another wheel to get him back on the track. Nick got 3rd in the NZ Cup on Wheels, 4th scratch race, 4th in Eliminatio and on Sunday 5th in the Category 1 60km Road Race.

The road race proved to be a great course with everyone heading back to the clubhouse for the prize giving. The track carnival was well run and a good night was had by all with the spectators loving the racing.

The crew found it was well worth the trip through to race with Cycling Otago and - once again - Stotty did an amazing job from the commentator's box. Well done everyone!
