36 riders over four divisions took part in the 2 lap 50km road race on the Thornbury circuit on Saturday under cloudy but fine conditions.

A grade completed the first lap all together with the pace not really being put on. On the second lap Matt Zenovich decided he needed to up his training so started small attacks, with approximately 5km to go Hamish Keast rolled off the front of the bunch, he was quickly joined by Zeno and the pair extended their advantage to 40 seconds on the chasing bunch, at the finish it was Hamish Keast who had the faster sprint to take the win from Zeno with Steve Keast making it a good day for the Keast family by taking the bunch sprint for third.

A bunch of 12 riders took off in the B grade with Dave Simpson leading a small break early on, this was chased down and by the end of the first lap it was Derek Tan and Wayne Miller with a 100m lead on the bunch. Derek carried on with the break and took some catching. A bunch sprint decided the race with Wally Kopae just getting the better of Wayne Miller for the win with Shane Fletcher taking 3rd.

The largest field of the day was the C grade, the usual hard workers were seen at the front of the bunch continually rolling over, in the end it came down to a bunch kick to decide the race with Erin Criglington again showing her speed in this department to take the win from Grant Colbran and Peter Leighton in third.

The juniors set off on their 1 lap 25km race together and worked well as a group to the finish line where Natalie Green just got the better of her sister Tyla in a good sprint finish with young Morgan Borrie coming home in third position.

Once again thanks to all the marshals, Lindsay Jones for the STMS and Robin Criglington for the great job of taking the entries and sorting the prize money.
