Southland cyclist Matt Zenovich finished strongly to claim second place in the 2017 International Tour de Banyuwangi Ijen in Indonesia.

The St George Continental Cycling Team rider won stage two of the race and produced another aggressive ride in the final 100km stage to Banyuwangi.

The 23-year-old raced hard on wet and narrow roads as he searched for points to help his and his team's aspirations and eventually did enough to move up from third to second overall in the points classification to cap off another excellent result.

The Australian-based team finished with five top-10 finishes during the race including Zenovich's stage win, his podium finish and also ended up fourth in the team's classification with only four riders.

For Zenovich, the result continues some strong form after picking up three stage wins on the Tour of Poyang Lake and is encouraging heading into the Tour of Southland on October 29.
