It's not often punters are allowed to bike in a bar, smack bang in the middle of the dance floor.
Seven Invercargill businesses were given the chance to do just that last night, climbing aboard their bikes for heat two of the Lone Star-Speight's roller racing series.
The series, where riders pedal 500m against the clock on fixed-gear bikes, provides a window of training ahead of the Cycling Southland-organised Corporate Pursuit.
Event co-director Julian Ineson said the roller races, held at Invercargill Lone Star, were a fun way for businesses to squeeze in a bit of team-bonding before the real deal.
The bikes were wired up to a computer to record the distance pedalled and the time, visible to the audience of supporters on a big screen, Ineson said.
Winning teams and fastest riders from each heat would progress to a final roller race, he said.
Radcliffe Electrical took out the fastest team title at this week's heat, clocking a total time of 1 minute 48 seconds.
Radcliffe rider Logan Havenaar was named the fastest individual rider, with a ''stunning'' time of 22.59 seconds, Ineson said.
The Lone Star-Speights roller racing series heats continue next week with another heat at the Lone Star on Tuesday and the final is scheduled for July 1.
The Crowe Howarth Corporate Pursuit time trials will be held on June 29, followed by race day on July 6.
