Southland tasted further success to finish off a successful campaign at the national club road cycling championships in Alexandra.

Southland's Bruce Jones won a gold medal in the men's masters 6 category on Saturday.

Jones claimed the men's 60-64 year old 80km category victory in 2:21.13 and finished with the same time as John Hogg from Central Otago Wakatipu and Counties Manukau's Neil Blayney.

Southern riders also featured among the medals on the final day of the event.

Anton O'Connell – now based in Cambridge but still wearing Southland colours - claimed the silver medal in the men's under 23 event behind Callum Gordon from Gisborne in a time of 3:47:16, while Southland team mate Josh Haggerty was fourth in the under-23 category.

Hayden Strong finished sixth in the under-19 event to just miss the podium with a time of 2:35:11.

While in the women's under-19 event, Mikayla Harvey from Central Otago won with a time of 2:26:32.
