The Time Trial will be held Sunday 29 June, from 2pm, and the main event is on Sunday 6 July. If anyone is able to lend a hand on either or both days, or able to coach a team this year, please let me know [email protected]  All offers always hugely appreciated.

Member Track Sessions
This Thursday night, mega Waine is kicking off a “Captain’s Ride” on the boards from 6-7pm – at first this will be restricted gears to 90” max. This session will run a couple of weeks and then be reviewed following the Corporate Pursuit team track allocations.

Meanwhile, next Tuesday 6 May we will kick off Tuesday night club racing again from 7-9pm initially with the times reviewed after a couple of weeks, again subject to Corporate Pursuit training. So we look forward to seeing you all there.

Don’t forget there is also Presidents Convoy on Monday nights, Drafters on Tuesdays, Track Start for beginner adults on Wednesdays and Lunch Rolls on Tuesdays and Fridays – keep an eye on the weekly track schedule for any changes.

10 Hour Teretonga Challenge
On Saturday 17 May we are planning a 10 Hour Challenge for individuals, teams of two or teams of four, to be held at Teretonga from 8am to 6pm.

This event will run subject to numbers but is intended to be a fun day out – bring your gazebo, pump some music, even get the Barbie on board. Entry is $10 for individuals, $20 for teams of two and $30 for teams of four.

You can enter online here by midday 15 May.

While, road racing ceases for a small period – there will be optional rec road ride wet weather rides offered on available Sundays – times will be advertised on the weekly track schedule – this Sunday it is 11am-1pm – just $5 per rider to be left in folder at the top of the rail and please return the folder to the office (under the door) at the end of the session. Thank you

Te Awamutu Junior Tour
There have been some cracking individual results at the Te Awamutu Tour from our juniors over the weekend and taking the top U15 title with a win in every stage was the outstanding riding of Hamish Keast – fantastic form from this future young star. There were many other fine results to check out too so read a wee report update here Good luck at the Club Road Nationals everyone!

Vital Signs Tour de Lakes
While many were over-indulging in chocolate over the long Easter weekend, a group of super-fit racing machines and their diligent tour support crew were on the road racing through the Central Otago, Lakes District and Fiordland for the annual Vital Signs Tour de Lakes – and another great race it was! Congrats to all who took part and great work to the management and support crew who ensured the event went ahead for another year. Big well done to Sophie Williamson for her women’s win and Luke Macpherson for claiming the Frank O’Conner Cup as the first Southlander, coming in 4th overall. Check out the report and results here

Westpac Chopper Ride
It’s that time of the year again … boy they roll around! So many of our club riders will be back out in support of a good cause on Friday 9 May riding Queenstown to Invercargill for the Westpac Chopper Ride for charity.

This year a horde of 50 lycra-clad cycling enthusiasts are out to do their part for the fundraising effort and aim to ride the 230kms from Queenstown to Invercargill in a fundraising challenge sure to test the stamina and determination of all participants. The course will take them from Frankton, down through Five Rivers, across to Gore and back into Invercargill. Each year Westpac sponsored rescue helicopters undertake more than 5000 missions across the country. Not only do rescue teams fly into remote locations in rugged countryside, they also transfer critically ill patients whose medical outcomes could potentially depend on the swiftness of their transfers.

We invite you to help Westpac Southland reach their fundraising goal of $25,000 by sponsoring our club members for this ride. There are two places you can do this:

Any donations will be gratefully received and greatly appreciated by those who need the services provided.

If you have any questions about the ride, you can visit the facebook page for more details – just look for 2014 Qt2Inv Chopper Appeal Ride.

Finally, just a little update that our Cycling Development Officer Nick’s arrival has been delayed – we will keep you updated.

Meanwhile, Bruce’s turn for some well-deserved leave, so he’s off on a tangent for a couple of weeks from Thursday.

So that’s it for another month – roll on May and the Club Road Nationals – good luck everyone!

Have a great week ahead
