Ho, ho, ho,
It’s finally official and we are fast winding down to our office closing this Friday.

Track Sessions
Tonight is Open Club Racing from 6-8pm

This week is the last sessions for Learn to Ride and Flyers. These will recommence from the week of 5 February 2018 but there will be some interruptions around the two Track National events from 21 to 25 February and 7-11 March.

There is no adult Track Start this Wednesday, this will also recommence from February next year.

Regular squad sessions will resume this week and next week before the Stadium closes the building for the Christmas-New Year break. Coaches will post on Facebook and be in touch when sessions will resume and at what times in the New Year, once the venue opens again on Monday 7 January.

Niagara Ride this Weekend
Plans are all set for a club ride to Niagara Café this Saturday 16 December. Please let El Presidente Reece McDonald know if you are going so he can give the café a heads up on numbers arriving. The ride will leave the Velodrome at 9am and it is a ride, not a race, but you can do it as fast or slow as you like – it’s all about having fun and being safe. Let me know if you if you are going and can’t contact Reece and I was pass on details for you.

Road Racing & New Year Events
Zookeepers Wednesday Worlds will run until 20 December.

The Tuatapere Sports Day will again be hosting grass racing at the Tuatapere Domain on Monday 1 January with a midday sign in for a 12.30pm race start – there will again be great prize money up for grabs so make sure you head out and support it. Entries should be given to Tony Ineson [email protected] or phone 217 4920.

Canterbury Track Cycling will again be hosting its popular New Year Track Carnival at Denton Park on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 January. Some of the biggest names in New Zealand Track Cycling will be racing, as well as a number of current World Champions. Riders from Under 13 grade right through to Elite and Masters Grade racing will be on in a spectacle of fast and furious track cycling. Entries are open now and spectator tickets will also be able to be purchased. Entry Fees: Under 15s $10 per session and $25 per session for Over 15s. Racing Starts 6.00pm Friday 5th January and again 3.00pm Saturday 6th January with more than $7000 prize money on offer! That's huge!!! So get online and register now

ILT New Year Track Carnival
Entries are now online for our Carnival on January 19 and 20 – make sure you enter before going on holiday. Late entry fees are here to stay sorry.

The Ascot Park Hotel Criteriums will be held during the day on Saturday 21 as well. Read more and enter now

Track Nationals Skinsuits & Team Shirts
Everyone riding Track Nationals next year must have a Southland skinsuit – either buy directly online from  Ultimo/Action Apparel or Champion Systems.

Let me know at the office in the New Year if you wish to hire – which is the best way to go for growing kids.

Learn to Ride Term One
Registrations are now being taken for our Term One Learn to Ride beginner track sessions for juniors, aged 10 years and over. Cost is $85 per term and includes drink bottle, coaching, bike and track hire and a certificate. Choice of Wednesdays or Fridays 4-5pm. Register online now to ensure your spot and spread the word so registrations are in before the holidays!

Ramp required
Calling any builder or budding builder! As part of the risk assessment being carried out, it’s been recognised that the large concrete pad under the track needs a ramp. Is there someone out there keen to do some handiwork using old timber they might have to build a ramp? Contact Mark in the office if you’re able to assist.

Around the Lakes
Saturday 6 January, the Cromwell Summer Series will hold its popular Around the Lakes, Lake Dunstan Cycle Challenge. You can view the details and enter online at www.cromwell.org.nz

Christmas Office Closure
The Cycling Southland office will be closed this year from Monday 18 December and we will be back on deck on Monday 15 January. The track will be open as per usual for anyone wanting to use their regular sessions until the Stadium’s last day on Friday 22 December. The Stadium then re-opens 7th January with reduced hours of 8am to 5pm daily and 9-5pm on Sundays, before returning to regular hours on 21 January.

Finally it’s congratulations again to our flying Southland national representatives on some outstanding successes at the latest World Cup in Santiago, Chile. There have been many outstanding results again from Eddie Dawkins, Nick Kergozou, Tom Sexton, Natasha Hansen and Kirstie Klingenberg (nee James) and Emma Cumming. This follows their earlier success at the early-December World Cup in Milton, Canada. Keep the great results coming champs, you are all on fire! Check out the articles
