Perth-based cyclist Alex McGregor will try to defend his Tour de Lakes title when the four-day stage race starts in Cromwell tomorrow.
The Southland quartet of Eddie Dawkins, Matt Archibald, Pieter Bulling and Tom Scully have secured their spot for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
A big day out on Saturday for the two-stage Riverton to Tuatapere and back again road race.
The New Zealand para-cycling team has claimed three medals and a world record on the opening day of competition at the world track championships in Mexico, followed by a fourth medal on day two.
The Southland-based para-cycling pairing of Phillipa Gray and pilot Kylie Young will make their world championship debut together in Mexico this week, along with fellow Southland sighted pilot Laura Fairweather who will debut with para-cycling's newest star Emma Foy.
The largest field ever assembled for a round of the Benchmark Homes Elite Cycling Series is also potentially one of the strongest in the history of the series.
BikeNZ has named a 13 strong team of junior track riders, including Southland's Emma Cumming, Makayla Smith, Tom Sexton and Hamish Beade, to contest the Oceania Championships in Australia in October.

Southland's fast-rising stars of the track Laura Heywood, Nick Kergozou and Mike Culling have been named among a full New Zealand complement of 14 riders who will be heading to this year’s UCI junior track cycling world championships in Korea.
Southland riders Tom Sexton and Brayden Stephens and Central Otago rider Nicole Shields have been selected in the U17 New Zealand team who will ride the Canberra Junior Tour in May this year.
It was an ominous start to the morning as the showers continued and more than 60 intermediate and secondary aged riders representing nine schools converged at Teretonga for the 2014 Secondary School Road Champs on Tuesday 25 March.
Over the weekend Cycling Southland went head to head with the country’s best and brightest voluntary groups and organisations at the Trustpower National Community Awards.
