I hope your final days of it officially being winter are going smoothly as the lawn mowers get dusted off early and the spring bulbs explode into colour – good times!
First-up is a huge GOOD LUCK to Sophie-Leigh Bloxham and Corbin Strong and all of the Kiwi team who begin racing at the Junior Worlds Track Champs in Aigle, Switzerland from tomorrow. Very exciting times as they battle out the best for the coveted rainbow jersey! Knock it out of the park with your very best performances and enjoy the whole experience. Follow the results
King House Removals Race Series
The first 3 race nights for the King House Removals series are now completed, with some very close results over the competition. The next race night is Friday 7 September with a Keirin night. Please remember that any outstanding accounts need to be paid before continuing in the series. We would like to thank all those who have helped us get this series off to a successful start. Friday Night Racing
There will be Friday night club racing this Friday and next Friday. $10 cash per person with registration from 5.30pm, warm up from 6pm. This Friday is Don’s Tour de Velodrome. $10 entry, strictly pay as you go with profits to the Junior Division.
Adult racing programme
We're introducing a coached six-session adult racing training programme for those looking to take the next step. Running on Monday nights from 5.45pm from August 20, the hour-long sessions will teach basic track racing skills and provide development for novice riders keen to start racing but unsure where to begin.
Run by Cycling New Zealand-qualified coach Lance Spencer, participants will develop track confidence, learn to ride in bunches, build strength and endurance, and learn the basics of various types of racing.
Contact the office to register - spaces are limited. You will need to have completed Track Start and be a confident rider on the track. Read more here
Road Racing
Another good turn-out on great winter’s day for the Dipton Handicap race on Saturday check out the manager’s report. This Saturday is another handicap on the Thornbury circuit, meet at the former Thornbury Tavern at 1pm for 1.30pm race start.
A reminder also that our popular Geo W Wilson & Sons Ltd/Southland Farm Machinery Gore to Waikiwi Classic is coming up quickly and will be held on 1 September Check out all the details

Junior Div Meeting
The next Junior Division Meeting will be held August 20, at 6.15pm upstairs at the velodrome. Another reminder will be sent out, but please let Andrea know any agenda items and mark your diaries now.
Yunca Junior Tour
Get your entries in now for the next Yunca Junior Tour of Southland from 5 to 7 October. Register online
Remember this will be followed by the South Island Secondary School Track Champs on 9 and 10 October and our Junior Track Carnival on 9 October. Entries for the track events will open soon.
Annual Awards Night
Save the date: Cycling Southland’s annual Awards Night will be held on Friday August 31 at the Waikiwi Bowling Club. Details – including ticketing information - can be found here. A list of the finalists can be found here. Congratulations to all those nominated.
Expressions of Interest Oceanias
The 2019 Oceania Track Cycling Championships are to be held in Adelaide from the 10th-13th of October this year. Anyone seeking to ride for the Southland team please register their interest with me at [email protected] and if you have any questions please contact Sid.

BDO Lake Taupo Challenge
The Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge will be held again on November 24 with family and group offers and challenges for schools, tertiary students and rotary options as well as on-road and off road racing. Read all about it
