Date: Tuesday, 29 January 2019

Greetings everybody and welcome to another week with a taste of summer returning for good measure.

GM Update
Hello…. for those of you I haven’t had the chance to meet, I look forward to catching you up in due course. So while I am still ‘settling into the seat’ so to speak I have some great news out of the office today.

Development and Events Co-ordinator

I am very pleased to announce that Glen Thomson (Tomo) will be joining Cycling Southland as our Development and Events Co-ordinator.  As most of you will know Tomo has a first class background in cycling as a 2 x Commonwealth Games track medallist as well as being a national road champion.  Tomo’s width and breadth of experience in cycling, both on and off the bike, will be a welcome addition to the Cycling Southland team.

Tomo joins the team on the 11th February 2019.

Wednesday Worlds
For those of you heading out to our first Zookeepers Café Wednesday Worlds tomorrow night, you will notice there is more road signage, which is now legally required for STMS sign off (or traffic management safety). Accordingly, if you are at the race and able to lend a hand on a corner marshalling it would be hugely appreciated – just check in with Lindsay Jones if and where you could help please.

Friday Night Racing
Junior Division will bring back Friday Night Racing this week from 6pm. $10 cash entry please and all welcome!

Road Racing
Anyone not using road racing numbers that you may have – we would welcome them back to the office please. Also a reminder that you can accept or decline road race alerts through Teamer – so let me know if you wish to be included in this.

Thank you our first band of merry volunteers who kicked off our weekly road racing programme at Makarewa last Saturday. Read the report
This Saturday is the Tisbury Graded Race on the Wednesday Worlds circuit so make sure you head out and get the legs going while the sun is shining.

On Saturday 9 February, it is the popular Browns Sports Day 36km Handicap race from Lorneville Corner, followed by family fun and grass racing – with prize money – at the Browns Domain. Entry for the Road Race is $15 so please enter with Tony Ineson, [email protected] or phone 217 4920. Volunteers are appreciated for marshalling and assembly is 10.45am for 11.30am race start.

New Two Day Road Tour
This year we have the new Vital Signs Fight for Yellow Two Day Tour on our road calendar, which is exciting to see.

This tour is being held on 30 and 31 March and registrations are now open so read more and register now!

Academy Southland Applications
Applications for the 2019 Academy Southland intake are now open and they close on 25 February. View the details and application form

Congratulations
Huge props to Tom Sexton on his recent gold with Madison partner Campbell Stewart at the UCI World Track Cup in Hong Kong over the weekend – super star stuff that result.

Also finally big congrats to Corbin Strong who makes his debut with the St George Continental cycling team on the five-day Herald Sun Cycle Tour in Victoria, Australia from tomorrow. St George is the team our seasoned Elite roadie Matt Zenovich races with. Meanwhile Tom ‘Scud’ Scully and his team CCC Team EF Education First Pro Cycling are also racing the tour.

So that is it from the office for another week. A huge good luck and keep safe and well to all our crew heading to the Elite and U19 Track Nationals next Monday. All the hard work is about to pay off as your give it your best in Cambridge. We’ll all be cheering you on too!
