Hi folks,
Another busy, busy week as we commend the organisers and riders involved with the inaugural Vital Signs Fight for Yellow Two Day Tour on a fantastic first event – set in glorious Southland weather – and prepare for what is thought to be the country’s oldest Classic Club race with the Stonewood Homes Gore to Invercargill Classic this Saturday – we are truly very lucky with such awesome sponsors and great racing.

Stonewood Homes Gore to Invercargill Classic
This iconic race will be held starting from the Gore Town and Country Club car park at 1.30pm this Saturday. Fantastic prize money on offer again this year from our generous sponsor Stonewood Homes so ensure you register by midday Thursday for handicapping purposes please – Under 19s and over only can enter.

There is again a 25km handicap junior ride option for Under 17s commencing from the Morton Mains-Seward Downs-Rimu Road and following the course of the open race, starting at 2pm. The race will be followed by a prize giving and social barbeque at Dave and Joss Beadle’s place in Racecourse Road.
Anyone available to marshall – we really appreciate your help. Please let Tomo know [email protected]

Vital Signs Fight for Yellow Two Day Tour
Wow, that was a good one! Stunning weather conditions, dedicated volunteer committee and many willing helpers made for a smooth five stages around Eastern Southland last weekend. Check out the race report and view the full results from all stages
This tour effectively filled the void following the end of the long-standing Vital Signs Tour de Lakes, so it is exciting to see new options arise to keep our many happy competitors – and many visitors from afar – happy on their bikes. We are very fortunate to have so many supportive sponsors, volunteers and skilled people in our club to ensure these events happen. Well done to all involved.

Final Road Racing for the Season
Tomorrow night is the final Zookeepers Café Wednesday Worlds for the Summer season and the weather looks like it will hold so make sure you get out and make the most of it.

Then next Saturday 13 April is final road race for the season with the Rimu Graded Circuit. If we could please have a volunteer to manage this final race as the scheduled manager is racing the Calder Stewart series that weekend. Let Tomo know if you can help please [email protected]

Raising a Performance Rider Workshop
This Thursday we are hosting a special workshop with Cycling New Zealand education manager Chris Foggin. Designed for kids and parents alike this informative and insightful session will look at what young athletes should be doing – or not doing – to survive in the pressure cooker or elite sport. Make sure you register with Tomo first please [email protected]

Architecture Unlimited Track Challenge

Entries are now open for the 2019 work challenge, including a business battle and a social but serious competition. Check out the details.

Otago-Southland Schools Road Champs
Last Wednesday – in somewhat trying conditions! – we had more than 60 young cyclists from Otago south competing in a road time trial and road race over four age groups, based at Alistair Burnett’s property in Myross Bush. Despite the poor conditions, the kids prevailed and there was some fantastic racing as always.

A huge thank you to all those who lent a hand in the cold, wet conditions and ensured the riders were safe on the circuit and huge thank to Red Burnett for having us again this year. Check out the full results
