A dramatic demotion to the silver medal at the world championship will be just the motivation the New Zealand team sprint squad need to race for gold at the Rio Olympics, according to Southland's Edde Dawkins.

There is strong Southland presence in a talented New Zealand under-19 team announced today to contest the Oceania Track Cycling Championships at Invercargill later in the year.

Well more of our young southern stars have been making a mark on the road cycling ladder following the return of late selection Sam Miller and CO-Wakatipu’s Nicole Shields who spent last weekend racing for Cycling NZ in some gruelling conditions at the Tour of Canberra in Australia.

As part of the ‘Technology’ section of our heritage trail we would appreciate some helmets donated to show the changes over the years.

A small but enthusiastic field turned out to race on ANZAC day at the Rimu circuit.

Welcome back to Term 2 everyone and it’s great to have so much going on at the track again with NCEA and schools coming indoors to keep active in the cooler months ahead.

The first day of road nationals is time trial day. It was a fine day with the wind swinging from a moderate to a stiff throughout the day. The course incorporated a decent climb at 1km from the finish which was required to be pasted over on the way out as well.

After a bad week it was good to have fine weather for Saturday's Thornbury 75km graded race.

Daryl Johnstone will rack up his 10th Corporate Pursuit when Cycling Southland's annual business house track competition gets underway in June.

April is supposed to mean longer nights and Autumn but we’ve been sprung a wintery surprise this week! 

A small contingent of southland riders took on the 2015 edition of the Te Awamutu Junior Tour. Under 17 riders Corbin Strong, Sam Miller and Hamish Keast along with under 19 riders Hayden Strong and Tom Sexton.

15 hardy riders turned up for the 80km handicap race which started and finished at the Gorge Road Country Club. A strong breeze and hilly conditions confronted the riders which left in 4 bunches for the two lap circuit race.
